First of all, a huge thank you to everyone who came out to the recent networking breakfast. I was so honoured to share, as the #WRTalk community was where I truly felt welcomed when I first went full time with my business.
Let’s do a quick recap of what we covered.
For starters, there are so many common time challenges that many of us face. Such as: struggling to get everything done each day, feeling overwhelmed with our schedule, and trying to multitask everything.
And then there are so many myths about time that are easy to believe. They include: busy means productive, all I need is more time, and so many more!
You may be wondering, if time management isn’t about time, what it is about? I believe it is about two things; priority, and self-management.
Priority is the first step in the framework that I shared, and one of the biggest keys. It wasn’t until the 1900’s that the word priority became plural, and that is when the trouble began. Now we feel like we can have 10 different priorities - yet we don’t end of up accomplishing any of them.
The second step of the framework is to plan. It is key to put together a simple plan that will help you focus on accomplishing your top priority. One of my favourite quotes is, “Plan your work, then work your plan.” Which brings us right into step three of the framework, act. Having a plan doesn’t do much good unless you can execute it. And single-tasking is one of the best ways to help focus while executing.
The final step of the framework is Adjust, and the step that is most often forgotten. It is important to consistently reflect and adjust the plan as you are making it happen.
That’s the four-step framework. I hope that as you prioritize and plan your next project you find those steps helpful.
